In-Form HJK Backed to See Off TPS at Home

HJK head into Sunday’s home meeting with TPS in strong form after back-to-back wins, including a 5-0 midweek triumph in Europe. With TPS struggling away from home, the hosts look well placed to take another victory.

Veikkausliiga action continues on Sunday evening as HJK Helsinki host TPS Turku. HJK returned to winning ways in their last league outing, then followed it up with a five-goal victory in the UEFA Conference League qualifiers, and they will look to keep that momentum going at home.

HJK beat VPS 2-1 at home in their previous league match to end a two-game losing streak in the league. In midweek, they also swept aside KÍ Klaksvik 5-0 at home in the Conference League. Teemu Pukki has scored in back-to-back matches, including a brace in the most recent game, and he has produced 5 goals and 3 assists in the league so far, making him the team’s main attacking threat.

HJK’s home attack has remained reliable this season. Their standout league results at home include a 3-0 win over SJK, a 5-2 victory against Jaro, and a 4-0 triumph over Mariehamn. With another home fixture on the schedule, HJK have every reason to be fancied here.

TPS Turku, by contrast, have shown inconsistent form lately. They were beaten 3-1 by Ilves in their last league match, leaving them with 2 wins and 2 defeats from their last four league games. More troubling is their poor away record, with no wins in recent road matches, including a 3-1 loss to SJK, a 0-0 draw with Lahti, and a 1-0 defeat to Ilves.

Although TPS edged the previous league meeting between the sides 1-0 at home, their recent away struggles make this trip look especially difficult.
