According to confirmation from the venue media officer and observations from reporters on site, the entire Argentina squad left the stadium without speaking in the mixed zone after the medal ceremony, ignoring hundreds of journalists who had been waiting for hours.
Several players walked straight toward the team bus, briefly causing disorder. Many Argentine and Spanish reporters at the scene said they did not understand the decision.
Under the 2026 FIFA World Cup Competition Regulations, it is mandatory for all participating teams, including coaches and players, to pass through the mixed zone after matches. If an entire team collectively boycotts or fails to fulfill its media duties as required, FIFA's Disciplinary Committee can impose a fine on the relevant football association.
Notably, this is the second consecutive World Cup final in which Argentina have refused to give mixed-zone interviews. After winning the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, they also did not accept any interviews, leaving directly after celebrating with the trophy in the mixed-zone corridor. That incident brought no punishment, but with a second breach now in question, whether FIFA will open disciplinary proceedings has become one of the main post-final talking points.
